Pineapple Strawberry Smoothie with Yogurt Recipe

 

Few years ago during a wellness visit, the doctor and I got into a discussion. She insisted that I supplement my junior’s diet with a multivitamin. I wondered why especially since she said everything was normal. She insisted that it was impossible to provide all the nutrition needed on a day to day basis. So, taking a multivitamin would be prudent. I believe in getting nutrition from food, hence I disagreed and told her likewise. She gave me a skeptical smile and left it at that. That started my serious journey into holistic approach to food. But, have you ever tried to cook balanced meals for each day of the week? If you have, you would have noticed that it is an extremely hard thing to do. It takes meticulous planning and fervent energy in doing this incessantly. To top it, life has this astute way of throwing roadblocks in one’s journey! Months down the road, I could finally appreciate the doctor’s insistence for a multivitamin.

For someone committed solely to my family’s nutrition, I still had a tough time putting together balanced meals on a daily basis.  Given the scenario, I started devising simple “put togethers” that would help to amp up the daily requirements in an easy manner. I find smoothies to be a beautiful medium to do this. You can throw in a bunch of superior ingredients, blend together and gulp it down as a massive filler towards your daily (optimal) nourishment requirement. While its thrifty and sensible to make use of seasonal produce, I find that frozen comes in extremely handy as well.  For days, when my meal planning goes haywire (or err…when I am lazy!), I find it so much easier to take the smoothie route.

Today’s post is a simple example of this theory. A creamy mix of probiotics, antioxidants, fiber, vitamins and other minerals or to put it in kid friendly terms – a creamy pineapple and berry smoothie, is not only delicious and filling but also nutritious.
